Taken with Ilford 400 HP5 film

This is a series I shot for my photography subject on Cockatoo Island based loosely on the theme of industrial decay. This was my last semester doing film photography, in the next semester we move on to digital and studio photography, which I'm a little sad about because (in hindsight) I really enjoyed all those hours in the darkroom. There's a huge sense of satisfaction after perfecting a print with adjusting the time, contrast and dodging & burning time over and over again, trying not to think of all that extremely expensive photographic paper you're wasting. I learnt so much through doing these film classes which I don't think I would have been aware of if I just shot digital, and I'm quite happy with how my printing skills have improved over the year.




On a side note, I went to see Radiohead last night and it was AMAZING. I had goosebumps when they dragged a piano on stage and Thom Yorke's sweet sweet voice serenaded Pyramid Song to me.

FILM: PARIS

Film outtakes of my eighteen hours in Paris. At this point I was so delirious from 72+ hours on less than 8 hours sleep that I put the colour roll of film in my camera, forgetting that I really meant to 'do' Paris in black & white. Oh yeah, and those Ladurees are from before they were available in Sydney.

FILM: BUDAPEST

Discovered two rolls of film from Europe that I forgot to share. I’m not super impressed by the developing quality, next time I think I’ll make the effort to just develop it myself. 4 months till I leave again (I swear my life for the past 5 years has been a cycle of working hard, then spending all my savings on European trips) (not complaining though!).

SLEEPY

I just realised how bad my scanner actually is, so sorry for the blackness of the photos but it wouldn't have felt right lightening film photos on Photoshop. 
I hit the ground running back at uni the past week - it's scary how fast you can forget about a short holiday once things like uni work/ work/ internships seem to take over your life again. Despite quite outspokenly declaring my hatred for the colder months, I'm actually finding myself enjoying the chillier morning bike rides in the winter sun and the softer light throughout the day. It seems like in Winter it's always either sunrise or sunset, there's never that harsh, midday sun like we get in Australia during Summer.

DEVELOPED

Some photos from my first fully self-processed and developed roll of film - the novelty of watching the photo appear as you put the paper in the developer in the darkroom still hasn't lost its novelty for me.

It's been a big past few weeks, having almost no time after the accident to actually process it - being so busy with uni work and other work. Then there was also something else this week (that I won't go into) which caused a lot of initial excitement, followed by immense disappointment. Moral of the story: I need to learn to not take things so seriously. Sorry to get so emo on y'all. I'm off to make some bircher muesli for tomorrow's breakfast.

NEGATIVE

The feeling of relief that washed over me when taking the developed film out of the processing tank after adding, agitating and rinsing chemicals meticuolously according to the chart in the darkroom. The novelty hasn't worn off yet (as I'm sure it has for some of you) and I'm looking forward to finally processing the photographs in the next week.

Taken at camping, my party, slurpee runs, tea parties at world bar & 'the pool'. How cool are the effectz?! I love getting film back- especially since I had no idea how this would turn out. It's been a good few months off but suddenly life has become insanely busy again and I kind of like it.

It has been suggested to me that I change my image format to 'standard' sizing for blogs (who even knew there was such a thing?!). So I'm truly sorry for the inconsistecy, (since I only changed it not long ago) but my images will become slightly bigger as of now. You probably wouldn't have noticed anyway. (#designerproblems).
