Closure

Sometimes I feel really good and sometimes I feel bad and sometimes I think I'm totally fine and then I think again and realise maybe not. Maybe the past 4ish months have been harder on me than I was able to realise in the busyness of it. I was going to write a really happy post about how I feel complete closure about being back and how good this week was (it was) but then one hour later I feel pretty crappy. I still feel uneasy about getting very personal on here and I often write stuff, only to erase all of it (just did that twice). The last few months in Europe was an emotional roller coaster (with many very happy moments too) and coming back I had to face a few personally devastating facts. I really wish I could let it go more and just trust God with it, but it's hard.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Phillipians 4:6

On a lighter note - this week was really good! On Saturday I met Elize and Sophie at Eveleigh Markets which was so, so nice. You know when you meet people and you can just talk for ages and when you leave you just want to talk more? I can't wait for our next catch up. Afterwards I met a really really good friend and kept the theme of the day going (talking), walking through the botanical gardens (forgot how magical that place is!), eating the most delicious fig & frangipane tart from the markets, reminiscing about the mountains and watching the preparations for the Mardi Gras.
I've really been enjoying Sydney this week too. I cycled a long way to uni on Monday morning and watched the sun rise and the morning unfold while cycling through the suburbs - it was so beautiful. Have also resolved to make the most of my time after class in the afternoons - going snorkelling, swimming laps, going for walks through the city and visiting all the wonderful new cafes that have sprung up while I've been away. I'm loving my classes this semester and realised how much I missed the conceptual-ness of my degree here.

Textile

Last week I photographed Rouse Phillips Textiles for Broadsheet - apart from Anastasia and Tim being absolutely lovely, I was so impressed by their designs - their prints are exactly what I would love to have in my dream home one day (at the moment that's a high ceiling apartment somewhere in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, but it changes weekly). Organic with a slight African and 90's feel, I loved all of it. Tim also studied Visual Communications as I do now and it was good to chat and be reassured that I don't need to know in what exact field I'd like to go in yet. The Crepe & Coffee Co

A few months ago I took some product photos for The Crepe & Coffee Co, a lovely little cafe in Redfern, Sydney. To take 100+ photos, all in my mid-semester break, seemed like a really daunting task at first and thinking back the whole week that I spent there still seems like a bit of a blur. A really delicious, coffee and fresh juice-fueled blur. It's right near Redfern station, the staff are all really friendly and they really do do a mean crepe. My picks: the salmon or nutmeg butter (add banana) crepes, chorizo breakfast hotpot and some of the best coffee I've had (big call) - a really great Columbian single origin roast.

FLORA

I often get too involved with going through pages and pages of people's European holiday photos, meanwhile forgetting all that Australia has to offer, 'right in our own backyard'. Located on the northern outskirts of Sydney, Muogamarra Nature Reserve is only open 6 weeks a year at the start of Spring in order to "preserve [its] fragile ecosystems and Aboriginal heritage". As I found out today, definitely worth a visit (next year alas - today was this year's last open day), with Pie in the Sky (good enough to rival Harry's Cafe de Wheels) conveniently located right across the entrance for a post-bushwalk treat.

I realise I'm a bit late with writing about this place (better photos and words here) but I thought I'd give my two cents on Bread & Circus anyway. It was absolutely lovely to have a quick break here in my very busy past week with Hannah and Nicole, enjoy the super fresh and tasty fare and talk to people who get my latest obsession with anything to do with cafe culture and share my love for muesli. I'm currently going through a sourdough bread phase; (in the past it has been banana bread and chicken burger phases) and my goats chevre on sourdough here was definitely memorable. I loved the interior's homely-yet-industrial feel and will most certainly be going back to get some more of that chocolatey/ spelt/ seasalty cookie goodness that we ate so fast I couldn't even get a photo of.
